world's third largest labor force

ASEAN member countries are poised to become economic hotbeds in the coming years. This region will become the primary investment destination from Asia, Europe and elsewhere. If ASEAN is a single economy, it would be seventh largest in the world with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of US$2.4 trillion in 2013. It could be the fourth largest by 2050 if growth trends continue.

With a nearly 650 million population, ASEAN's potential market is larger than the European Union or North America.

Next to China and India, ASEAN has the world's third largest labor force that remains relatively young. Importantly, this region is a politically stable and peaceful one, despite some very remote and isolated militant incidents that are being effectively contained.

Therefore, it’s incumbent upon us to gear ourselves to be worthy of more investments from outside this region."
